4 Study Tips To Ace Your Trimester Exams

It does not matter whether you are a night owl or a morning lark because we are all too familiar with the anxiety and stress that comes with examinations. But it doesn’t have to be difficult and painful. All you need is to learn some quick tips that can help you study effectively so that you can ace every exam.

Read on as we share some handy tips to help you study smart.

Always Give Yourself Enough Time To Study

Do not leave your studying or revisions to the last minute. While last-minute cramming can seem effective to certain students, it is widely accepted that this is not the best approach for most of us. To help you make the most use of your time, it is advisable to set up a timetable for your study. You can start by jotting down how many exams you have to sit for and the days on which they will fall on. From here, you can organise your study timetable properly. You may want to allocate more time to study specific subjects or modules, so it’s best to find a balance that you will be comfortable with.

Organise Your Study Space

Having an untidy desk or room will make it harder for you to find important notes and texts. This, in turn, could stress you out or present an easy way to procrastinate your revision. As such, before getting down to revision, your priority is to set up a study space that ensures everything is organised.

You should also remove distractions by making sure that none of them is anywhere near the area in which you will be revising in. Having good lighting is also an essential factor in setting a room’s mood. Too dark and you might be straining your eyes to do reading, whereas too bright can leave you feeling overstimulated – contributing to headaches and stress. You might want to shift your study table near the window so that you can get as much natural light in as possible to minimise these negative effects.

Make Use Of Visual Stimulation

Visual aids can prove to be really helpful when it comes to revision. Try this: Before you start revising a topic, challenge yourself to write down everything you already know within the chapter. Check back on your texts and highlight where the gaps lie. As the examination date draws closer, condense your revision notes into one-page diagrams – getting your ideas down in a succinct format can help you to recall everything you need to know during the examination quickly.

You don’t need to have artsy diagrams, instead, a simple mind map can work wonders. Studies have shown that mind mapping helps with memory and retention. Creating links between different pieces of information and organising them into groups or categories helps your brain to remember and retain information easily.

Eat Well And Eat Regularly

It may be difficult for you to cook, especially if you are living alone in your student accommodations. But did you know that what you eat has an impact on your energy levels as well as focus?

As such, you should keep your body and brain well-fuelled by choosing nutritious foods to aid concentration and memory. Some of these can include salmon and blueberries; for snacks, you can opt for almonds and yogurt. The same goes for your exam day. While you may not have the appetite to stomach food, having a light snack provides a good source of energy.
